1. Remove the rocker arm cover.
2. Remove the intake manifold assembly.
If any valve train components (lifters, pushrods, rocker arms) are to be reused, they must be tagged or arranged during removal to assure installation in their original locations.
3. Remove the rocker arm and pushrod assemblies.
4. Remove the hydraulic lifter retainer bolts, them remove the retainers or retainers and restrictors, as equipped.
5. Remove the lifters from the engine.
To install:
6. Inspect the lifter and lifter bore for wear and scuffing. Examine the roller for freedom of movement and/or flat spots on the roller surface.
7. If new lifters are being installed, lubricate the lifters using a suitable pre-lube and add GM engine oil supplement or an equivalent additive to the crankcase.
8. Install the hydraulic lifters along with the restrictors and/or retainers. Secure the retainers using the bolts and tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).

10. Install the intake manifold assembly.
11. Install the rocker arm covers.
