A trac loc is a limited slip which is a traction aiding device, but not a locker. A locker is a traction aiding device that Locks both axles together. Detroit locker, Lock-Rite, ARB, Ox-trax, are all lockers. Power lock, trac loc, GM's Posi-traction units are all limited slips. They aid in traction but can still spin a tire if you get one in the air or on real slick surfaces and the other tire has lots of traction. I'd like to add that the trac loc is probably the weakest of all the limited slips. I wouldn't bother spending money on one or go to the trouble of installing one. An open carrier is stronger than the trac loc. They usually break the cross shaft as that is their weak point. Nickmil.
