"I got my drivers front axle replaced today. The guy at the parts
counter was extra helpfull. I found out some information that some of
you might find interesting.
DCX buys these parts for the warranty work. Below is a list of how
many a day they purchase.
front passenger axle - 7 per day
front drivers axle - 9 per day
rear driveshaft - 1 per day
DCX has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the price of the axle. This means the
dealers make next to nothing, if any, to replace the axle. The current
price DCX is using is comparable to the price ratio of a part being
recalled.
The following estimates are based on the above averages. Approximately
7K Rubicon front drivers axles have been replaced. If only half the
Rubicons broke only one axle, then the total comes to about 10K.
So, my WAG is that between 10K-15K Rubicons have had axle failure. I
wish I knew the production number of Rubicons have been built so I
could estimate the percent of failure.
Hopefully, there will be some resolution to this in the future."
