The trophy heads north
Norm Walters and Kym Bolton driving a
Nissan Patrol have won the seventh ARB Warn Outback Challenge and in doing so have taken the coveted winners trophy to Queensland for the first time. Trent Leen and David Hickman came in second also in a Nissan Patrol whilst Dean Kilmurray and Jack Talbot took out third place making it a hat trick for Nissan.
It¹s the first year a Range Rover has not placed in the top three and there are eight Nissan Patrols in the top ten, one Toyota HiLux and one
Daihatsu.
Norm and Kym were over the moon with their performance which saw them win by 120 points . ³Norm and Kym¹s performance overall was excellent which is why they scored so well² said Event Organiser Paul Vanderhorst. ³It¹s also great to see the trophies go to Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
Kym has been trying hard for a podium finish and weeks before the event was disappointed when he realised that his GU Patrol was was not going to be ready so he teamed up with Norm in his car. Tonight he is pretty happy that he did not decide to give it a miss this year.
The highest placed International team was South Africans Terence Reinders and Warner Trimmer in twelfth place. Experience paid of for them, they have competed once before, as have Neil Redpath and Patrick Smart who travelled from the Scotland to take out sixteenth place.
The competition was without doubt the toughest ever which was evident in the number of vehicle casualties and the total number who had terminated before the end of the event.
Everyone enjoyed a big night of celebrations at Eldee Station near Silverton where all participants including marshals, spectators and locals reflected on their nine days in the New South Wales Outback and planned their return for 2006.
The total number of terminated vehicles at the end of the event is eight
33 Steven Waterford and Steven baker
54 Robert Szczupak and Peter Mildwaters
32 Celia and Eugene Barry
12 Henry and Robin Lefever
19 Greg and Andrew Scanlon
